Metal(Iron). Wrought. Trade ax head. Head features a flaring body with curved chopping blade. Round eye. Possible demarcation line on right side suggests that a steel tip was welded to the iron body. Pocked appearance of the tip metal supports this by suggesting blister steel. Ax head possibly coated in museum wax or other non-corrosive coating at one point. Ax Head only. Inactive corroded condition. |
